The Student Comes First

I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. I continue to study in my personal time as many topics as possible, with the belief that a good tutor is firstly a good student.
I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I favor a holistic approach to learning, believing that education should be of the whole person. If a student learns how a skill in his tutoring session can be applied in real life, then his or her perception of the subject may fundamentally improve.

Science is one of my top subjects! I have 5 years experience of teaching middle school science.

I graduated from the University of West Florida in Pensacola with a Bachelors in Science in Marine Biology. I have worked as a fisheries biologist for four years before I became a teacher. I went through an intense alternative certification program that allowed me to learn two years of education into a six month period. I taught 8th grade science in Desoto County for five years. After moving to the Orange Park area, I began teaching Biology and Marine Science at a Clay County high school. This is where I am currently teaching and have been for almost three years.

A Little Bit About Me...

My greatest teaching philosophy (though I cannot claim it to be original), is "Can't never could!" This is such an important concept, for students as well as their teachers and tutors. Without belief in the student on the part of the teacher or tutor, I feel that a student is more likely to fail. I believe in optimistic approaches and positive reinforcement in the teaching process. This tremendously helps a student succeed. I understand that it is not always possible for a student to gain understanding of a concept in one sitting. Every child should be given opportunities for expansion and growth. I will help every child I work with in every way I can towards their goals.

My passion for education allows me to meet students at their point of need. I strongly believe that all students are capable of learning, while everyone doesn’t learn the same way. With four grandchildren and four different personalities I know each child has their own way of learning. I’m a very happy person and rarely do I get upset. Learning should be fun and taught so the child will learn at their pace and be able to retain the information given to them.
Have been married to my high school sweetheart for over forty years. Love working with children and watching them grow and achieve their goals in life. Retired early and I’m financially sound so I’m not doing this for the money. I was in the funeral industry for 10 years before buying a medical equipment company. Have seen and dealt with all kinds of personalities in my fifty-nine years.
