My comments on tutoring Elementary Math: I have taught elementary math in the public school system, at home with my own children and as a tutor. I use everything at my disposal. I have been known to use peanuts sitting on a counter to successfully teach double digit subtraction before. I taught a first grader to count to 100 with a 100 box. which is a 10 X 10 box that he could then visualize while counting. It just depends on what style of learner the student is as to what teaching method I will use. Some use a hands on approach, some visualize, some just neeed auditory.

Creative teaching for a life time love of learning. I gather everything at my disposal to work with my students and teach to their particular style of learning. I have used basketball to teach social studies. Vegetables to teach science. Peanuts cereal and even M & M's to teach math. A lecture is not always the best method of teaching, but that is what they get in the classroom.
