I use the Active Participation strategy because it engages the learner not only in understanding but in contributing as well. This active learning process combined with introduction of practical uses/examples of the the subject matter provides a deeper meaning. But most of all the Objective,Purpose,and what their interests are, must be known so that these can be incorporated in the learning process.
I have been a substitute teacher for about 10 years specializing in math & physics. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 20+ years of maintenance/engineering experience. I incorporate practical examples in teaching to give students in depth knowledge in a practical sense. My teaching style depends on the needs of the particular students. I assess the style needed for a particular lesson and use visuals, such as PowerPoint presentations, textbooks, as well as audio, with such tools as are available after individual assessments. I have a great deal of experience teaching ESL.
Even before I went to college and earned my B.A., I had already taught two years of ESL in Kachin State, Burma. I came back to the US and earned my degree in East Asian Studies at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
