I am a teacher at heart and many of the students and other professionals in my classes have said that I should change professions. I approach teaching as a process of understanding why certain activities or processes are required to get an answer. I treat all computer/math/study activities/problems in a way that students understand the logic of the steps taken. I stress the “breaking down” of a problem into its component parts is an integral part of life, not just math, accounting or other school assignments. My style of teaching is to first get the student to understand the basics that are needed as a foundation. For example, my friend was having trouble completing accounting homework and I soon realized that it was because he had not memorized the basic equations; i.e., "assets - liabilities = owner's equity," and "beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory = cost of goods sold." Just about impossible to advance without the basics.
At Hartnell College I tutured math and economics. Recently I tutored a co-worker who was taking a college Accounting class and he appreciated it and said that I was very helpful.
