My comments on tutoring Chemistry : Can help up to high school level

I have experience in all of the fields that are listed. Most of the skills I have acquired were either through learning them during my time at school or through doing personal research because they interested me. I have done some tutoring in the computer/i.t field as a side job. Chess has been one of my favorite things to learn. My experience with chess has been a regional tournament where I made it to the last-round of the semi-finals.
I am a very hands-on teacher. I try to help students by showing them how it is done and then letting them practice.

My comments on tutoring Chemistry : I wish my high school Chemistry teacher taught me additional material. I can tutor students from what a mole is? to the periodic table, chemical reactions, etc.

My teaching style involves asking the student how was his/ her problem solving experience. I work in this manner which is if students put in the effort, then I will help them no matter how much they struggle. I have helped students with tutoring at the college and high school levels.

I believe in good classroom management and organized lesson plans. I set appropriate boundaries and expect the students to follow the rules that are set before them. That being said I try to make the learning as fun as possible but organized. I also try to bring in anything that they are interested in to make them enjoy the subject they are learning. If I can find an example in life they can relate to that will help them learn something I will find it and bring it in. I love working with children and really love math.
Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. A Little Bit About Me...

My first opportunities to teach began as an undergraduate, where I was tutoring my peers in most basic science topics. My most significant undergraduate teaching experience was an opportunity I created for myself leading weekly review and problem solving sessions for undergraduate Organic Chemistry courses. In addition to extensive experience as a tutor, While I was required to perform typical Teaching Assistant experience in graduate school, I sought additional opportunities in the local academic community. Throughout most of my graduate education I maintained a position as an adjunct faculty member at Mesa Community College (MCC) in Mesa, AZ., where I taught introductory Biology courses to science majors.
My teaching style is best characterized as unique, practical, and demonstration oriented, and I believe that the combination of these characteristics make me an above average ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children as well as adults. I am very patient and understand the difficulties of school work. Not all children learn from the same style of teaching or at the same rate, and I believe that a dedicated teacher can make all the difference in a child's education. Because each child is different, I can modify my approach to fit the needs of the child in a fun, productive manner.

As a graduate from an accredited college, I have learned and excelled as a science major. I have earned a BA in Biology, which has enabled me to obtain a well rounded education, which focused on math and science. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills throughout my educational experience in writing laboratory reports, research papers, and on my own study I, myself conducted. For the past six years I have worked with challenged children and adults all subject areas. I am very hands on, so I like to take my students outside and let them touch and feel things we are learning about. I can teach all subject areas and will probably begin a Masters program for teaching next fall.

I believe that a teacher has not taught until a student has learned. Therefore, I consistently assess my effectiveness to see if the student is understanding my attempts to transfer information. My strength is using analogies from real life to demonstrate difficult scientific concepts. I believe that anything can be learned if it is broken down into small enough "chunks." I have acquired many "tricks" to learn difficult scientific concepts.
I have taught chemistry for over 20 years: AP Chemistry - 6 years, Honors and Standard Chemistry - 18 years, and College General Chemistry - 6 years. I have taught chemistry in both public and private schools in New York and North Carolina. I have taught students possessing wide ranges of aptitudes; including students with learning disabilities and those who are honor students in college.
