I believe that student's time and attention is very valuable, and warrants preparation and thoroughness. My initial approach is always to first assess a student's needs, goals, learning style, and accomplishments. Next, I pick a strategy to approach the needs of the student. For example, I might select a straight-forward text or document from which I could teach loosely, such as the book "With Good Reason". (It is an excellent text on argumentative methods.)
