A teacher never stops teaching, and never ceases learning.

I have to first find the learning style of the student. As a teacher, I find that students have diverse ways of learning and that I must adapt my teaching style to their needs. For instance, I have some students who are auditory learners and sometimes retain information more if information is read orally to them. Some students must have a generous amount of explanation as to the content of what he or she is reading while otheers require many visual cues to accompany their learning. It really depends upon the student.

Once I have an understanding of what a student is capable of I like to push them to go past their "comfort zone" in learning. It helps them understand that what may look difficult, may not always be so and that they only way to find out is to learn it. Also, I do not teach study habits. Instead I like to see what a students current habits are and work on expanding those habits so that the child does not get frustrated and overwhelmed. It is easier to learn more from current knowledge than try to teach a whole new way. After all, most students study habits are based on how their teacher has taught them, and I wouldn't go against what the teacher has taught. The point of tutoring is to help a child understand the work they are currently doing in school. It is my job to make sure that happens. I will want to speak with your child to determine the best way to teach them.

I am here to help students to become better writers!

I have helped many of my friends and other students become better writers throughout and beyond my college career. I have seen all of these students gain good grades for their work, and they also became better writers through the process. Writing papers is one of the few things I found easy in college. I enjoyed writing and the process so much that I majored in the subject. I have written way too many ten- twenty page papers in my life, struggled to see the project come to a close, and rejoice in happiness after the grade was posted/ returned. Writing papers and teaching others how to do so is my passion. It takes time and a lot of effort, but the end result is worth the hard work. I have been writing and helping others become better writers for the past five years. I plan to continue to teach for many many more.
I have a calm teaching style and approach. My goal is to help clear ... read more

I am a College Student studying English and Politics

I am a very firm believer that each human being has a different way of learning. I also believe that each subject has a different way to be taught. I teach based off of my students, as well as the subject.
I was a tutor in high school for many elementary and middle school aged children. I am also experienced with writing papers, so I can help anyone who is writing for a college application or essay. I am a very quick learner, so if there is a subject I am not as familiar with I am willing to study it to help a student. My goal is to help students understand the context being taught, as well as teach them the importance of this knowledge. I have often used the phrase "When will I ever need this?" and I have learned later on in life that each subject is important. This is the messageI want to get across to children, that learning new things is a very important aspect of life.

Over the years I have become a diligent student of the college essay, journalism and non-fiction writing. As a literature major, I was trained how to analyze stories and ideas through discussion and then how to put ideas into written form. As a creative writing minor I was trained how to edit sentences taking out any unnecessary phrases and words. In addition, as a senior, I did an internship at the UNCW writing center where I helped college students with editing their papers. My passion for clear thinking and concise writing has only grown since college. After college I spent a year teaching high school students the Bible as a youth pastor I learned how to ask students questions on their thinking level.
I enjoy helping anyone become a better writer! I strive to help people know that the first time they write an essay, a letter or a speech that it won't always come out perfect. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a writing instructor, I aspire to teach students to want to learn to write, because when students want to write, they learn to write. I believe the teacher is not the sage on the stage, but rather, the guide on the side. One of my primary goals is to empower students through student-centered teaching. I encourage students to assume active, curious roles in their education whereby they can develop strategies to monitor their own progress and learning. By promoting the development of strong analytic / research skills, students can make discoveries and inferences for themselves and become critical and creative learners.
I hold B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from Wake Forest University. My 4 years in the WFU Writing Center as a Writing Instructor developed my capacity to assess student needs and tailor approaches to teaching writing. In this role, I was responsible for overseeing ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am presently studying at the University of South Carolina pursuing a career in English, in addition to applying to Law School. I have concentrated my efforts in the areas of literature and compostion, with several hours spent tutoring other students who experience difficulties with these subjects. I have written numerous papers and have read extensive literature covering many genres which allows to be a better tutor.
With the competitive demands of our youth and the need to excell, I know the presssure placed on kids today to compete on so many different levels is significant. Pressure causes much anxiety and undue stress, making it difficult for both the children and their parents. As a young man, I am still continuing my education to pursue additional degrees in English and then on to Law School. I will look for ways to motivate and make learning fun. I can encourage them tha ... read more
