My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I took Honors Algebra II/Trigonometry in tenth grade and earned an A+ for my hard work. I even scored a perfect 116 on the final exam. Algebra II was very useful in complicated calculus and was used often.

Teaching new concepts, practice applying the new material, review, and more practice of the material to solidify the concepts.
I have helped my classmates and have had one official student as of this summer. However, I have learned how to explain concepts so that students dont just memorize, they will gain a thought process and applicable knowledge that will enable them to solve even the most complex problems. Having this mentality of preparation and success will being them to reach their goals.

I am not a teacher; I am an awakener!

I have taught in the education field since 1999. I am very fortunate to have had the privilege of working with a multitude of learners in a variety of environments. I found this very rewarding and decided to pursue a degree in education, which lead me on my journey into the world of Special Education. I began working with children and young adolescents who had a variety of special needs and learning styles; I went on to specialized Autism and Special Education for K-12. After working with young children for many years I decided to branch out to work with young adolescents and adults pursuing their high school equivalency. Working with young adolescents and adults proved to be just as rewarding as working with small children. Helping someone achieve a life long dream of obtaining their high school diplom ... read more

I have BS degrees in education and industrial engineering. I also have an MS Teachers in Geosciences. I have worked for much of my career as an engineer but have also taught earth science at the high school level for two years in the recent past. I have great enthusiasm for the world we live in and the study of earth science. I look forward to working one on one with students that are having difficulty and helping them make the grade.
I believe a good teacher should have the following attributes. First, they should love their respective subject. Second, they should have real world experience that can tie to the lesson of the day. Third, they should understand the needs and desires of their students. Lastly, they must have a firm but fair method of classroom discipline. Martin Luther King Jr. stated that, "the function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence, plus character-that is the goal of education." I agree with this statement and will not only teach my students secondary mathematics, but also how to be successful in the real world through problem solving and active inquiry. To facilitate this learning, I will create an environment that allows all learners to grow to their highest potential. Every student has unique skills and attributes to bring to the table and it is my job to bring out these abilities in my students so they not only have the opportunity to learn, but also the desire to learn.
I have had the opportunity to work with all grade levels in a variety of disciplines; however I have had the most experience at the secondary level and am certified to teach 7th-12th grade mathemati ... read more

I believe teaching is more than just showing how to solve a problem, but is helping the student to discover the “bigger picture”. For that reason, I ask a lot of questions to ensure that a student is not just learning by rote, but understands a topic within its larger context. In that way, he or she is learning not only how to solve a particular problem or answer a specific question, but also how to apply it to other problems in the future. I also like to make problems relevant. Students often complain that there is no reason to study something – math, for example. But I like to show that indeed, they use it all the time and that it can be fun. Learning should not only be effective, but enjoyable as well.
At my Ivy League college, we were taught not just facts, but how to learn. This invaluable skill has stood me well and put me in an excellent position to teach. I have continued ... read more

I assess the abilities of each person I work with and develop an approach accordingly. I think that a combination of patience and humor can provide for an outstanding learning environment, and I employ this approach when teaching.
