Philadelphia Tutor

Over the past three years, I have tutored several students in mathematics, biology, and biochemistry at the Academic Support Unit of the Multicultural Life Center at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I guided their development of individual note-taking strategies, study habits, and problem solving skills. I chose to tutor mathematics and biology in order to enhance my interpersonal, people management and critical thinking skills. Also, it was an opportunity to apply and share my knowledge with other motivated students from different academic years and majors. Throughout the experience, my goal was to help students become independent learners who can challenge themselves and maintain academic success. More About This Tutor...

After college I worked for three years.During that time I applied and received a scholarship to the Medical College of Pennsylvania, from which I graduated in 1994. I completed an Internal Medicine Residency at MCP in 1997. After residency I worked as an attending physician in Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2000, and in Berlin, Maryland, from 2001 to 2004. In January, 2004, my wife became severely ill, and I decided to take time off to raise my two young daughters. I taught at the Dawn Training Center in Wilmington, DE, from May to October, 2006. I also have extensive experience teaching junior housestaff and Nurse Practitioner trainees.
I have a fairly informal teaching style, and I tend to use a lot of humor. I try to connect the information I am trying to convey to what the student already knows, rather than simply provide facts to be learned by rote and regurgitated on an exam.

Hello, I graduated with a PhD. in analytical chemistry from the Department of Chemistry, University of Massachusetts in Amherst. My research work during my PhD career involved synthesis, purification, analysis and utilization of proteins and PEGylated proteins in bioanalytical experiments. These experimental studies resulted in several publications in scientific journals. In addition, I have considerable experience in training undergraduate chemistry students. Recently, I had the opportunity to tutor at Westfield State College as a visiting lecturer, where I thought a second year organic chemistry class together with a laboratory session associated with the class. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been a lifelong learner, and I see tutoring as an extension of my desire to consistently review and engage with all academic material. The liberal arts education that I received at Scripps College set the standard to appreciate and learn a variety of subjects. I received two bachelor degrees, BA in Art History and BA in French, but also spent considerable time taking math and science courses. My writing skills also significantly developed during this time, and particularly came to full fruition during my graduate work in Art History.
