A Little Bit About Me...

I have just about ten years teaching grades pre-k through eight grade. I took the requirements to obtain a teaching minor and certification, except the student teaching and the test because I decided to switch gears and go to law school. I am experienced in both the Michigan Grade Level Expectations as well as the Michigan's Adaptation of the Common Core Curriculum. I have taught students who are both intellectually advanced as well as those who experience challenges with learning and have had great success with both. When I decided to go to law school, I worked full time as a teacher and excelled in law school graduating in the top 15% of my class. I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored with the Writing Fellows every Thursday at Schoolcraft College when I was working towards my Associate's in Liberal Arts. I helped students write and edit their papers. The primary focus was English but there were a few Social Studies/History students thrown in there. I graduated in April 2009 from Eastern Michigan University with my Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Media and Film with a Minor in Creative Writing.
I would usually look the paper over and point out problems with grammar and spelling and tell the student why they weren't working. I believe in the mantra "show, don't tell" when it comes to teaching. I'm pretty laid back and willing to work at whatever pace the student is comfortable with. I don't move on until I feel both of us are on the same page. I think the history of the English language has a lot of really interesting trivia.
