I have extensive experience working with dually diagnosed individuals. The students I taught not only had difficulty learning but also exhibited some emotional and mental difficulties. I work well with students both individually and in group lessons. My special education experience has provided me with an ability to identify where and why students are having difficulty learning. I am able to easily modify and adapt lessons to a students needs.
I enjoy working with and teaching all levels of students and children. No two children learn in the same way. It is important to differentiate and identify the way that each child needs to be taught and engaged in the lesson. Lessons must be concrete and meaningful to a child. When it comes to teaching or tutoring, I find that it is necessary to craft a pedagogical style that will match the learning style of your student. Each student learns in a different way, whether visually, aurally, kinesthetically, subconsciously, or simply by rote. I find that it is necessary to try each option with all students. I feel that the trouble that many students may have is that they operate differently from the rest of their peers and simply need a different approach to learning material. I find that making the material more interesting is of vast importance as well, and I make learning and retention of information a high priority.
