A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a BSE from Missouri Baptist University in education and hold a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate. My training at Missouri Baptist University has been supplemented with observations, field experiences, and student teaching which I completed at Kingston Elementary, Vineland Elementary, and Athena Elementary. I have also earned two associate degrees; AA in Education from Jefferson College and an AS in Interior Design from Patricia Stevens College. During the last two years I have been a substitute teacher for the Desoto School District and the Affton School District. There are many arrays of learning styles. I personally use visually, writing, and seeing the bigger picture. First, the mind can develop a concept or help map out the ideas by seeing the picture to the learning task. Second writing helps to reinforce the concept or idea. Lastly seeing the bigger picture helps to encompass their own ideas as well as the originator ideas.

As an educator, especially in mathematics, I want my students to not just arrive at the right answer, but understand the process, as well. I want students to have a solid foundation in number theory. I also want them to see the connection between the more elementary levels of mathematics and the more abstact higher levels. I usually spend some time and effort working on the organizational skills of the student, especially if I notice a weakness there. Many times the lack of those organizational skills becomes a detriment to math problem solving.
