Awesome Chemistry Tutor

I am a huge proponent of active learning. I engage the student in solving problems, taking notes, and reviewing past work (tests, quizzes, labs, and homework). I am a helping and caring teacher. I want my students to do well and we use the entire tutoring time to make that happen.
I received training as a chemist from both Franklin and Marshall and UW-Madison. I enjoy researching and solving chemistry problems. I approach teaching as a challenge; as I know not every student learns the same way. I first start by finding a common ground; a level of knowledge if you will. Essentially I find what they know and where do they need help. From there I like to find out something the student has an interest in; thus allowing me to relate subjects to something they find interesting. I also like to constantly reinforce what the student has learned with questions and examples. I like to have a relationship with the students I tutored where they feel comfortable with me; I want them to be able to tell me the problems they're having with the work and what I can do to help. I like to be friendly with them while still being an authority figure where they want to do their best. I think this type of relationship allows me to push the students to their maximum limit without discouraging them when we're having a difficult session.
