A Little Bit About Me...

I currently am achieving my BA in a double major in English Literature and Creative Writing. However, I did previously study Secondary Education and English at a former institution. Through both discourses, Education and English, I am both strong in content and method. I have three years of experience as a tutor and teacher assistant in the areas of Math, English, and Science. I achieved an English degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where my senior thesis was selected as a finalist for the UW Creative Writing prize. I am passionate about the English language, but I think that writing is becoming a lost art. Quality writers are quality communicators. As writing in general falls into disrepair, those who can write clearly and read critically will have an edge in every institution they enter--from the University, all the way to the workplace.
I enjoy hands-on teaching and one-on-one interaction with students. Good writing can simplify the thought process, and leads to students becoming better thinkers and communicators. Every student is unique and has different ways of doing things. In a swimming pool, you can see physical improvements in technique which ultimately improves performance. In teaching, it is different. It is sometimes very difficult to see the "light bulb" go on when a student finally grasps a new concept. I take different approaches in different situation to help students achieve results.
I have a degree in elem. education and taught 4 years of 6th grade math and social studies in a catholic middle school. I truly enjoy teaching and working with students to help them learn. I am open to using any method or style that is effective for individual students, which is what I do as an educator. My enthusiasm for education is obvious to anyone who knows me or observes me as a teacher.
The last twenty years of my full time teaching experience was in elementary gifted education. I currently serve as an adjunct math instructor at Fox Valley Technical College. I would feel most comfortable tutoring any elementary subject and some secondary math courses.
