A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching varies with the child, their age, personality, subject, and amount of time we have. Besides teaching 2nd grade religion for 14 years my daughter has ADD. I have worked with kids who need to keep moving while they learn, to kids who need complete quiet. Some kids are more visual learners; others need to act the lesson out, while others do fine quietly reading. The important thing is to make it interesting so they WANT to learn. Older kids with a higher level of maturity don't require as entertaining a lesson. They want to see how to apply what they are learning to their life. To know there is a reason to learn makes them WANT to learn, understanding WHY they will need to know the information makes the learning easier.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very fun and energetic person, therefore, my teaching style reflects my personality. I usually use hands on activities to keep the students engaged and allow them to be responsible for their own learning. I also find that this helps them have a better understanding of the subject area and since many people do not like English class very much, my approach helps them have a new respect for the subject. As a student at the University of Chicago, I have tutored at the local Ray Elementary school through the Neighborhood Schools program. There, I tutored two fourth grade ESL students, an Italian boy and a Korean girl, primarily in math and reading. I have also tutored at the STRIVE tutoring center, helping a 7th grader and 8th grader with math and reading.
