As an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of North Alabama, I teach students in a public speaking course through a series of class lectures, individual and group activities, live performances, examinations, and out of class assignments. I work on skills such as audience and situational analysis, research, organization, delivery, body language, and listening. I have a BA in English. I am a teacher with 7 years of classroom experience. My degree is in English, but I have taught in many other areas, including math, history, logic, and rhetoric. I have also tutored many students in grammar and writing, as well as Algebra I and II. I have been responsible for teaching books to students from American Literature (Hawthorne and Hemingway), European Literature (Dickens and Shakespeare), and World Literature (Gilgamesh and Homer). I prefer the Socratic method of asking/answering questions and discussion, but I am more than capable of diverting to a more lecture style of teaching if that is what works with the student. My teaching style is varied, depending on the learning style of the student. In class with mixed learners I use an eclectic approach. I use topics that the students are interested in. I have more than 10 years teaching experience. During this time I have taught at universities, public and private schools. The subject taught most often was English language and all its components i.e. reading, writing etc. I have also had four (4) English language workbooks published by Pearson-Longman, one of which has been adopted in some private schools.
