I was a peer tutor at Mount Marty College for three years in Yankton, South Dakota. While there, I tutored college students English, writing, religious studies, critical thinking in ethics, and speech. I love helping students improve their writing skills. I am a higher education professional who has come to believe that the best way to impact students is to return to teaching. I have a long-standing interest in the philosophy of teaching. I am particularly impressed by "deep learning," a movement that emphasizes critical thinking and inquiry at all levels of teaching. I also believe in high expectations combined with a strong support system, and a common sense approach to the subject matter. I have come to believe that much "teaching" is nothing more than giving students the illusion that they have learned something; this is evidenced by the "cram and regurgitate" approach often taken by students.
