Texas Certified Teacher: Early Childhood thru 5th Grade

I taught Early Childhood and Elementary school, grades Pre-K through 5th, in the Houston Independent School District for 10 years. I mostly taught 1st grade. It is amazing to see them progress and learn, from non readers to readers, from non writers to story writers. Since I moved to Baton Rouge I continued tutoring children struggling academically in the areas of Math, Reading, Language Arts, Spanish, and Social Studies.

For example, if a student is very interested in comic books and I am tutoring them in Spanish, I would find Spanish comic books appropriate for their age group. When it comes to history I like to introduce my students to the importance of essay writing and how to write a good history essay as well as timelines and Historical Identifications. If I am tutoring a high school student not only will I help them with their current work but I would also prepare them for history on the college level.
