A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to be a hands-on teacher. I enjoy watching the light bulb "light up" when a new skill is understood. I do like to work face-to-face with students as It provides a more dynamic environment for both parties. I like to work the problem step by step until the process is not only completed, but comprehended.
I have experience working with college-aged students, but am willing to work with all ages. I have a great working knowledge of all entry level mathematics including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, up through pre-calculus. I am also an avid user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, though Excel is my passion. I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.

I graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute,a college that prides itself in a rigorous curriculum with a strong emphasis on projects that its students prepare for a real world experience. WPI’s fast paced 7 week terms helped me learn time management skills, self teaching, and working in groups. I have earned a BS in chemistry with a focus on organic synthesis, as well as a concentration in history, specifically the history technology. The projects I completed include creating and analyzing a new organic compound, traveling to Africa to research Roman water technology, and working at the Tower of London Museum to research visitor satisfaction.
