I am qualified to tutor writing, basic computer, reading, basic math, learning, biology, organic chemistry, genetics, geography, and various exams, all from college-level experiences. I had a scientific book in Barnes and Noble, ample graduate-level coursework in Education, experience as a High School teacher, and lived abroad. I have a B.S. in plant biotech from Cornell.
I enjoy earnest and humble students, learning with and from them. I feel uncomfortable not learning laterally as well as vertically, seeing that to be knowledgeable, one must not just memorize but ruminate on what was memorized, making as many lateral connections as expedient. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. If they are unfocused and miss a part of what is instructed, they will be confused throughout the whole process. It helps to be patient with the educating process. These educators who take the time to make sure everything is understood make a huge difference in each student.

I will graduate at the end of this month with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English, having completed more than 90 credit hours in literature studies and 18 credit hours of creative writing. I have been substitute teaching for 5 years. Within that time I decided that teaching was for me and went on to get my degree and certificate to teach. I have completed several long-term substitute teaching positions, picking up where a teacher left off, often times unexpectedly. I have taught classes in the elementary, middle and high school.
My philosophy is that education is power. Knowledge is our greatest defense and our greatest weapon. Through knowledge we gain experience, which enriches our competence, which protests the ills of society, which leads to a social justice, and most important, liberty. Learning is an activity that we should never stop, and if we do, we begin to die. I believe all children can learn given the appropriate avenues to success. A Little Bit About Me...

I currently teach college composition and literature interpretation. I also tutor English composition at a community college. I homeschooled my own children, and I recently recieved my NYS certification to teach English Language Arts at the secondary level. I have a BA in psychology and classics and an MA in psychology.
I love composition and literature, and I am especially drawn to students at the developmental level.
