I taught high school English, journalism and speech for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have extensive education in, and have read poetry from, all eras and of all styles.

For the past ten years I have been tutoring students mostly in the following subjects: Literature, Poetry, Folklore, Mythology, Theatre Arts, Shakespeare, and Public Speaking. I have been a professional teacher in schools for five years teaching Theatre and Folklore/Mythology in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. While there is no substitute for understanding the "rules" of composition, I believe that learning to enjoy the subject is priority one. I earned my bachelor's degree from Oregon State University, taking mainly writing and literature. In my master's program I did a lot of writing classes and I focused mainly on publishing, and subjects such as editing and grammar. Instead of taking Spanish, I took statistics. This was very hard and I passed all three math classes after not having any math for many years. I also did some technical writing and creative writing.
