Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My lessons can range from private lessons to group lessons of no more than five at one time. I prefer to be very involved in my students' progress, and will readily explain any questions that they do not understand. My main strategy is basically to lay out the concepts that will be covered that day, go over several practice problems, and give three or four practice problems for the students to work on independently. For art students, I will demonstrate with explanation the concept that we will be covering in that lesson (be it portraiture basics or still life basics), draw diagrams with the steps clearly labeled, and have the student independently work on a similar piece which applies the same concepts. I follow Gardner's Theory of Learning Styles, students do not learn in the same way, as a tutor you must look for the approach that is right for the student. Also, working with at risk students, who have experienced failure in traditonal school settings, an educator must work on the negative beliefs of the student, including that the student sees themselves as "dumb" and " not able to learn." One or 2 point increase on a TABE test, needs to be recognized.
