Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My lessons can range from private lessons to group lessons of no more than five at one time. I prefer to be very involved in my students' progress, and will readily explain any questions that they do not understand. My main strategy is basically to lay out the concepts that will be covered that day, go over several practice problems, and give three or four practice problems for the students to work on independently. For art students, I will demonstrate with explanation the concept that we will be covering in that lesson (be it portraiture basics or still life basics), draw diagrams with the steps clearly labeled, and have the student independently work on a similar piece which applies the same concepts. I will supervise the student's progress and correct any lasting errors, but I prefer to have the students produce an almost entirely independently produced piece each session.

A Little Bit About Me...

When a student needs tutoring, there is a breakdown in the understanding of the subject. As a teacher, I find out the individual student’s thinking process and make it click for that particular subject. Quite often it is just a small portion of the process that is missing or the process does not make sense to the student. Breaking down the process step by step and using examples makes it easier for the student to get to the correct end results and understand how he or she got there. Understanding is the key.

A Little Bit About Me...

I follow Gardner's Theory of Learning Styles, students do not learn in the same way, as a tutor you must look for the approach that is right for the student. Also, working with at risk students, who have experienced failure in traditonal school settings, an educator must work on the negative beliefs of the student, including that the student sees themselves as "dumb" and " not able to learn." One or 2 point increase on a TABE test, needs to be recognized. I enjoy working with students to asist them in discovering the joy of learning, the feeling of succes when they achieve a goal of passing a test or completing an assignment.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all students can learn. It's just a matter of finding the instructional style that matches their learning style. I am a firm believer in the theory of multiple intelligences, developed by Dr. Howard Gardner and adapted to the education field by Thomas Armstrong. It's not how smart you are, but how are you smart! To me there is nothing better than seeing the lightbulb go on in students' eyes when they "get it." My job as a teacher is to figure out how to bring each individual student to that point and guide all of them to reach their fullest potential.
I have 19 years experience as a high school teacher. In that time, I have taught several different English classes and reading. My first approach is to capture the student’s interest in the subject. I am a flexible instructor, willing to try different approaches to stimulate the learning process. My approach is tailored to the student’s needs and interests. This makes the student want to learn and try harder. When that drive is in place and the partnership develops there is no end to what can be accomplished! This is a strong point in my teaching style.
As a trainer I have over 12 years of experience. My most recent position required me to offer alternatives to individuals and then assist them in implementing their choices. A Little Bit About Me...

As the parent of a college student with Asperger’s and several learning disabilities, I know firsthand that connecting with a teacher who is kind, creative, patient, and most of all, who believes in her students, can make a world of difference to someone who is struggling to learn. I am that teacher. I strive to understand my students’ individual learning styles, drawing upon Multiple Intelligence theory when appropriate. I have high expectations for my students and will not let them take the easy way out. I am also my students’ biggest cheerleader, celebrating every learning victory, big or small. I have yet to meet a child who cannot or does not want to learn; the challenge is finding the key that will unlock their door to success.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is highly personalized and tailored; firm, but friendly, has been an expression quite often used by administrators and parents to describe my demeanor. Once my students feel comfortable enough to truthfully reveal what they actually know and do not know, they realize that that is not a problem. No one knows everything. But it is instilled in my students to know themselves, their true strengths, as well as, weaknesses. Utilizing their previous knowledge with reasoning and open candid discussions, I always commend them on what they do know and build from there. Better self esteem and appreciation for the value and need of the subjects learned testify to the impact of such teaching methods used.
