Better academics combined with more fun is the goal.

I have helped friends (and their children) to prepare for exams since when in high school I won various awards for my performance on exams. I won the top score for the Regents exam for Duval County in 1971 and for this I was recognized by the downtown Rotary Club. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award for the Chamber of Commerce and for the N.H.S. due to performance on exams. Also I won the Merit Scholarship award. I have only recently started to do tutoring for pay. Over the years I have helped my children, my grandchildren, and friends and others to prepare for exams ranging from kindergarten phonics up to and beyond SAT exams.
I consider it my duty to do what it takes to make the tutoring FUN for the person being tutored.

After graduation in 2008, I worked for the past year and a half in St. Johns County Schools as a 4th grade intervention teacher and in 5th grade ESE. As an intervention teacher, I worked with the lowest 20% of the 4th grade to help bring classroom grades and test scores up. This meant teaching the general curriculum and also strategies and test taking skills. I headed up the 4th grade tutoring program where I taught my own curriculum to help students prepare for the FCAT. While at Flagler, I tutored privately in all subject areas. I began teaching in 1998. My previous job was taken away by forces of nature. I had taken advantage of the Military Troops to Teachers Program with no clear pathway to practice. Until I found myself with a possibility of unemployment. I I applied at a correctional facility and I was hired over the next week. Hence my introduction to the classroom and the world of academia. I like to break things down to the component level in order to show the inner workings and the why of things for a more complete understanding. However, not all students are interested nor need to know the inner workings of things to succeed so I adjust my style to suit the student's needs.
