English Language Teacher/Tutor

I have taught ESL for 12 years and high school English for 2 years in public schools. I tutored my first subjects many years ago while in college when I tutored Composition I and II, Poetry, and Psychology. I have since tutored many hours in English-related areas. I specialize in English as a Second Language and have taught students from all around the world at a variety of proficiency levels. I have teaching licenses in multiple subjects in ND and MN and have a Master's degree in Teaching.
I believe learning should be fun. I also think its perfectly okay to make mistakes and know that we all do! I try to make all students feel at ease around me and we usually find ourselves laughing as we learn. I assess your skill levels in multiple areas and gear my lessons to your needs. As an Elem. Education teacher...I've have grea opportunities to work in a variety of settings and work with many families and their children. My emphasis is in the lower grade, and Early Childhood---BUT enjoy grealy working with grade 4-6 as well. I have expensive patience when it comes to working with students who "need the extra help". I haven't had SPECIFIC tutoring experience but working with students one-on-one from a variety of grades have allowed great experiences. I do have a high interest in math...along with reading (because of my Title I credentials in the Math/Reading areas). During my time at Concordia College, I was a strong tutor and office manager for the Reading/Writing Center, helping with composition in both English and Spanish. My grammar and usage knowledge is quite extensive, and I love tutoring writing and composition. I've also done quite a lot of tutoring in the ESL environment, as well as tutoring elementary math and reading.
I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. As a graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Education, I have a great diverse experience with children and families. I have volunteered my education experience and worked at many places including preschools, kindergarten centers, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and early childhood centers. I also have been involved as a juvenile tracker for Lutheran Social Services where I had to earn each juvenile's trust and help them become more responsible and be able to positively deal with school and life in general.
