In the years prior to high school I struggled with math but I had a few excellent teachers (my mother included) that lifted my confidence and taught me that I can achieve my goals through perseverance, encouragement and mentoring. I realized that math is simply a step-wise pattern of correctly followed operations. While in high school and college I tutored underclassmen and classmates alike by correlating math to something they enjoy such as food or money. As an undergraduate, my focus for studies in English were both Critical Literary Analysis and Creative Writing. Analytical writing was stressed heavily, giving me the ability to interpret a text based on intrinsic value. The creative tract allowed me to experiment with my own abilities while keeping in mind strategies implemented by others I have read and studied. A requirement for all English majors at the university was to have intermediate skills in a foreign language.
