I have been teaching in different areas and capacities for three years now. I started by teaching English to Korean students in Daegu, South Korea. Here I taught all different skill levels and ages. When I returned to the United States I began working at Sylvan Learning Center. I was responsible for running the center. While I have no "official" teaching experience, I was frequently required to teach other members of the various teams I was on as well as people from other groups. This involved everything from tutorial presentations to a large and diverse group down to individual tutoring at the table in my office. Most people told me I was pretty good at it.
I first try to determine what level of knowledge my "students" had. Then, building on that, I would add layers until the group I was with understood the material. I would check with them frequently to make sure they understood what we just covered and I allowed questions at any time. If necessary, I would back up and try a different approach. My goal was to make sure they understood the material, whatever it took.

A Little Bit About Me...

With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. Even at a young age I taught my younger sister basic mathematical and reading skills even before she entered kindergarten; we called it "school". The youngest, my brother, in which we are both diagnosed with ADHD, is amazing. I quickly learned to be patient with him when helping with his homework because I can see the same frustration on his face I had at his age when trying to concentrate on a difficult task.
