A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate student transitioning from physics to astrophysics, my goal being a PhD in Astrophysics. My undergraduate degree is a BS in Physics with a minor in astronomy. Because of the nature of physics, I have been exposed to many types of science and mathematics. I am also experienced with professional writing as required for producing lab reports and research papers, some of which were followed by presentation talks. I graduated from Duke University in 2009 with a triple-major in Biomedical Engineering, Economics, and Mathematics. I have tutored in Economics and spent four years mentoring middle-schools students in Engineering as a Techtronics Fellow.
I have never been someone who "just gets it" when it comes to math or science, and so I understand more than many people who pursued degrees in these subjects just how puzzling they can be. Math seems like it is filled with "tricks" that seem impossible to know unless you were born with some innate gift. When I teach, I seek to show, step-by-step. how to think about a problem as more than a set of symbols on paper.
