I am currently an undergraduate student studying communications. I have held four collegiate journalism internships, two of which were federal internships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. In the past year, I served as assistant managing editor of my collegiate newspaper, The Oracle; served as assistant editor of the collegiate yearbook, The Eagle; and I served as a teaching assistant for the freshman introduction to journalism course at TN Tech University. This semester, I will serve as managing editor for both The Oracle and The Eagle, and I will continue to aid in teaching UNIV 1020. I will graduate with a B.S. in Communications December 19, 2009.

Having graduated with a Master's degree in Education,and a Pre-Med in Liberal Arts, I had been involved in various line of work, including a Pharmacy technician, medical interpreter, and tutor for adult classes in Spanish. Such experiences helped me decide to devote the last 20 yrs. as a Spanish teacher in a Public Schools System.

I love the give and take of working with high school students. I relish hearing fresh, young opinions and seeing how they decide what they believe in and why. My style entails showing a student the relevance of what he or she is doing. It is important for a child to know WHY what they are supposed to be learning is so important; they need to know how it will help them years from now after the classes are over. I taught for the public school system in Memphis, TN for 17 years with 15 of those years in the same school. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grade and for 3 years I taught a second/third split class of exceptional students. I quit teaching for a short period because I adopted 2 children overseas. However, I worked part-time as a computer instructor for preschoolers for about 2 years.
