A Little Bit About Me...

I have extensive experience teaching all aspects of English, writing and composition, grammar, and literature. I have taught at University of New Mexico for the past seven years during my graduate work, and as a part-time instructor. In my teaching I commonly have worked one-on-one with students in the writing process. I am also a poet and creative writer with a broad base of knowledge in the humanities and arts to draw from. Though I have been working with college students, I love younger students as well and have much patience and adaptability with learning styles and levels.

My style of teaching, especially with tutoring, is to find out what kind of learner my student is: tacit, oral, or verbal. Then the lesson style can be geared to that, while leading the student to become more aware of the other abilities and options. Also, it is imperative that students understand why they are learning what is being presented to them. Cause and effect leads to greater awareness and more objective, analytical, and critical thinking.
