In 12 years as a high school teaching assistant, I have worked primarily with individual students in a wide range of subjects ranging from art, literature and history, to science and mathematics. I enjoy working with younger generations. I believe stimulating intelligence and creativity in younger people sometimes requires thinking outside the box. Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. My teaching style is to engage the student on a personal level through cheerful conversation and sharing of interests, then to assess learning styles, strengths, and challenges. Children perform well when expectations are complimentary to them, and when they are given the tools and nurture to accomplish their dreams.
