ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects! I use a variety of techniques to engage students and make learning fun and interactive. I also understand that students learn differently. Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.

I feel that I do my best work with Elementary age children. I like to make education fun and easily accessible. I love using games and hands on activities to teach lessons. One year after graduating from Westminster High School, I began substitute teaching for Carroll County in many different subjects. Through these opportunities I became aware of The Arc of Carroll County, where I decided to apply for a full-time job as an instructional assistant, where I have spent the last five years working with the developmentally disabled population. A Little Bit About Me...

Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. My teaching style is to engage the student on a personal level through cheerful conversation and sharing of interests, then to assess learning styles, strengths, and challenges. Children perform well when expectations are complimentary to them, and when they are given the tools and nurture to accomplish their dreams.
