I do only what is necessary -- nothing less or more -- to help you succeed. Most students learn best by being guided rather than taught. The strategy for success on standardized tests is fairly general, but every student has particular strengths and weaknesses that must be factored into the preparation process. Hence, I take a very individually customized approach.
I have been tutoring for the ACT and SAT for three years after having scored very well on my GRE and getting trained by an elite Test Prep company in Southern California. Currently I'm a professor of theology, ethics and philosophy at Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, TX. I've continued to tutor because I find the work both meaningful and impactful.

Educated professional - Alternative tutor

I worked in after school progrmas all through college and generally enjoy helping children study. I am very engaging, patient and relate well to any age child or young adult. I am not a proto-typical, traditional "tutor" in that I never studied education in a pedagogical sense, but I am highly educated and always made high grades in every level of school. My goal when working with students is to fully describe the steps necessary to solving various classes of problems, often in an outline form, for it is in learning these steps that a student becomes an independent learner. I like to work through as many examples as the student needs, gradually working them into the problem-solving process, until they are able to work a few completely on their own, or, in some way, demonstrate understanding of the material. Of course, this method is a little easier to employ in one on one tutoring sessions, but even with my work in the classroom, I feel student participation is crucial to the learning environment.
