I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. You can't speak AT them; you have to involve the students in what you are teaching them.

If I had to pick one style it would be direct teaching. Although being a special education teacher I also use the cognitive strategy instruction. This approach is very helpful as a tool to help students develop the necessary skills to be self-regulated learners. One should continually differentiate the lesson utilizing all the modalities. When I facilitate interaction between the class it will depend on the lesson sometimes having the whole class participate is the way to go, other times it is helpful to employ small groups.
