Successful test prep retired English teacher

I recently retired from the HOPE School of Hamilton City Schools. The HOPE School is a credit recovery school that helps students get caught up for graduation. Students who are too far behind to complete graduation in a timely manner are given GED tutoring. I was in charge of this tutoring and tutoring for state standards tests. My comments on tutoring Grammar : I teach grammar by having students learn to recognize each sentence as a construction of "blocks." I feel this makes comprehension much easier than the usual way of teaching.

I always teach the material in a way that was easy for me to learn. I learn best through "hands on" approaches. I learned how to write by practicing and imitating other professionals. My assignments are creative, but I always strive for practical results and measurable improvement. I want students to notice their improvement, but also to realize that what they've learned is useable in the "real" world.
