A Little Bit About Me...

I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth.
My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. I graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with an AA in Elementary Education. I passed the NYS Teacher's Assistant Skills Test in 2006. I worked at BOCES as a tutor. I tutored high school, middle school and elementary school students. I also worked in the BOCES classrooms as a teacher's aide. I worked at BOCES for 3 years. I also worked at Happiness House as a substitute residential aide, and my duties included helping young residents with their homework and reading with them. I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. One of the advantages of my background is the variety of people I have worked with.
