My comments on tutoring Drawing : I like to encourage my students to challenge themselves creatively and draw their own designs that they are going to paint. However, traditionally Decorative Painters use patterns to lay down their design and we have numerous books and patterns for students to choose from at the studio so NO DRAWING SKILLS ARE NECESSARY in any of my classes or workshops.

I am a relaxed teacher. I love to help student's explore what they'd like to learn or paint. I offer as much or as little direction as a student needs. I like to challenge my students to paint works that may be just a bit beyond what they think they are capable of because they always surprise themselves. Painting is nourishing. It is a privilege to teach and watch how it enriches lives!
I have 27 years of painting and teaching experience. I am an Assistant Professor at MCC whre I teach in Health Education. All children and adolescents can successfully acquire and process new information. Many students encounter difficulty learning in a traditional school setting because the large class sizes do not afford the teacher the time to learn about each individual and attend to his or her specific needs. As a tutor, I find my students' strongest learning modalities. In doing so, my students learn to trust and respect me as a person and see me as a support. I believe that education should present as much material to the student as possible, which includes using various textbooks, lecture, and inquiry. After that, it will be up to the student to assess and construct the information given in order to form his/her own opinion about the subject matter. True education and learning is ownership of the subject matter which comes through effort and discipline and a little bit of guidance.
Since April 2007, I have been a substitute teacher at both the Watkins Glen High School and Middle School. Frequent subjects include English, Psychology, and Physical Education. A Little Bit About Me...

Before I was able to tutor, I taught 7 year old girls cheerleading. When I began to tutor, I enjoyed being one on one with the child. I am very patient, punctual and considerate. I know children that need extra help need extra time. I find it personally rewarding to supplament a child's education. I also believe it is easier for a child to ask questions when they are one on one with an educator.
Beginning in high school I found myself driven to help children in need. Through my participation in Mercy Action, I raised money for mentally delayed children, and set up numerous barbeques for them. Later, I began tutoring a young brazilian boy in the 5th grade. He needed help with all of his studies, especially math and english. As a political science major, I have gained experienced in essay writing, grammatical skills and research methods.
