It has been my experience that each student has his/her individuals needs and that each learns differently. As a tutor with Webster University's student literacy corps, I worked with individuals, pre-K-adult, on reading, literacy, and writing skills. The most important element of teaching is to realize one is teaching a person. In a tutoring situation, it is especially important to discover exactly how to present material to the student. As a teacher, I seek to understand the student and then present the material using terms and examples the student can understand.
