I taught for two years in third grade and two years in second grade in North Carolina. I am currently awaiting my Virginia elementary education license. I prepared third grade students for the End of Grade state standardized test, in which my classes did very well. As a teacher in North Carolina, I communicated frequently with parents, worked daily with co-workers to review student data for the purpose of remediation, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of my diverse students. I helped to prepare students for the demands of a 21st century economy through daily use of technology, collaborative learning groups and hands-on, inquiry based instruction. I have a BSED in ASL/English from Valdosta State University as well as a minor in music. I also studied Voice for 2 years from Appalachian State University. I currently have a VQAS level 1 in ASL. And an SLPI Intermediate. (2006). I have been in numerous honors and all-state choirs and orchestras as the principle flute player. I have played flute for 20 years. I have experience using the Ready2Read program for sight reading help and the Spell to Write and Read program for phonics. I am a homeschool mom of preschool and elementary age children. Over the years, I have been known as a good tutor because of my will and determination to make sure the ones whom I am tutoring are understanding the material rather than just remembering.For this, I have been known to be a strict tutor, but the significance of this matter is that I always have had students getting at least a grade level higher than what it was. For example, in the 8th grade right before a test to a classmate asked me to review the material that would be on the test, because she had not studied at all.I had ony 10 minutes to tutor this person but as a result, my classmate got a 85 out of 100. In this situation and every, I find out what can I use(weather it is something silly or funny)that help them remember, than I further it into giving them a better understanding of the material.
