English and Writing Tutor

I am a senior at the University of Tennessee and am majoring in Architecture. Coming from a background of advanced English classes at Oak Ridge High school, writing and composition is my strong suit. I have tutored an architecture student who was taking a writing intensive essay course on "Theory of Architecture" and helped her sharply improve her weekly grades on papers. Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects!

I have 10 years experience teaching ESL in various settings. Primarily my experience has been in K-12 public schools. However, I have experience in teaching adults and in tutoring adults, as well. My students have varied to professionals seeking to improve English to newly arrived immigrants needing to learn an entire new language. My teaching style can be called old-fashioned: the best results come from patient, focused, disciplined time on task. To learn math one must work a variety of problems, and practice them diligently. My strength as a tutor is my ability to explain the algorithms in a way that students can easily grasp. This includes the vitally important requirement of why the problem is worked the way it is, not simply how.
I taught high-school math for 14 years, everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus, in both public and private schools.
