A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher and instructor, I have over 20 years experience in education and a BA in Music Education. I have 13 years experience teaching music, to all levels K-12, in public schools. In addition I have and continue to provide individual music lessons to children and adults. I also teach group kickboxing exercise classes at our YMCA. I have also enjoyed volunteering in our Awana club as a group leader assisting 3rd - 5th grade students.
I have proven many methods of teaching, especially in instrumental music. Through large group rehearsals and individual instruction, I have been allowed to explore many types of learning tools. Kickboxing instruction has also provided even more opportunities for diverse learning. My primary method is demonstration and 'hands-on' approach, especially with learning an instrument. I have worked for the past 14 years in the behavioral health care field. I have served as a mentor to a youth with behavioral/emotional issues. I hold a BA of Education with a minor in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. I also hold an MSEd in Education- Counseling. I hold a current Nebraska teaching certificate and have worked with youth of all ages.
I enjoy teaching and helping youth learn. My philosophy is that all children can learn if provided the opportunity and resources that fit their learning style. I believe in positive reinforcement and praise. Children learn in many different ways, and it is an educators role to provide opportunities for children to learn through various methods. After receiving my college education I taught my own visual art curriculum in Western Illinois for two years. Here I worked with Elementary students and High School Students. My second favorite subject is Math. I have had the chance to tutor and assist student in Nebraska with my Para position at Northwest. I have also been given a tutoring group, which meets three days of the school week. Here I have been able to use my skills in the arts and my skills in math to help students who are struggling. While being a Para it was my job description to assist students with special needs on their homework.
