Making A Difference

In May 2012, I received my bachelors degree in English with a Literature Emphasis and a minor in Writing. I graduated with a 3.6 g.p.a. (Cum Laude Honors.) Throughout college, I took various education courses that focused on educational philosophy and physiology, elementary and secondary concentrations, and students with disabilities. I was able to obtain 36 education credits and in 2009, I was admitted into the school of education at my university where I was able to engage in student teachings, researchers, and observations. In 2011, I participated in the student outreach program where I would visit elementary, middle, and high schools to tutor them in English, Math, or Science and guide them through the learning process. I have a great deal of experience in educating students. I have earned my BA from Northern Illinois University in Communications, and I also have earned my MAT from Rockford College in Education. I have had my Type-03 Elementary Teaching Certificate since April of 2009. I have worked as a special education aide, student taught sixth grade language arts, and in the past year I have been a substitute teacher in Winnebago and Ogle County. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience includes teaching college English for three years. The courses I taught (Composition I and II) required me to know the mechanics of English (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.) as well as various forms of writing (narrative, expository, compare/contrast, cause/effect, research-supported, etc.). My classrooms involve learning-centered groups in a workshop approach. I find that students are encouraged by the examples of other writers and learners at their own levels. I provide a great deal of individual feedback on assignments. I encourage the imitation of examples in writing and the discovery of other writing styles. I am sensitive to the needs and learning needs of each student.
I have always been a reader and a writer. In my degree work, I learned how to inspire others to read critically and write well. I have many years experience as a college-level instructor.
