When I was in school, I could always understand or figure out what the teacher was trying to get across. Some students, however, didn’t always understand what was being explained. I was the kid who would rephrase the teacher’s remarks and explain it again in a way that the other students could understand. Not all students understand things in the same way. I try to find a way to explain things so the material is more interesting and less frustrating than it is when the teacher explains it. I love the “ah-hah moments” when you realize the student just got it. I am easy going; and kids have an easy time talking with me.

I prefer one on one settings for teaching, but I have no problem standing in front of people. I use my work experience to apply what the student has learned in the classroom and instruct them how the subject is applied in today's work force. During my time at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I earned two degrees: a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Theater. I also took many writing classes, focusing on different types of creative writing, from fiction to poetry to playwrighting. When I graduated in 2002, I spent several years in Barcelona, Spain working with college students. I try to present a concept or fact in several different ways so that I can resonate with the students thinking style. I have been told that I am a very good communicator and educator and can make concepts that seem complicated look much simpler and more comprehendible. If you've ever looked at the Khan Academy website, were Sal Khan makes little You Tube videos on all sorts of math and science topics, you will see a very similar method to how I educate .

A Little Bit About Me...

I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well. I typically work off of a performance based reward system since it appears to me that children are motivated by praise and reward in order to push them to do better on each successive obstacle they encounter in the classroom
