The second time through, we approach the problem with a little more weight placed on the student. After that I would have the student show me where they currently are in class and what they need help with. Then, depending on the particular circumstances, I would create a plan to get the student caught up and self-sufficient as quickly as possible. I love to help children understand a subject better. It is a great feeling to see a student get the idea after being helped. I believe that every student is capable of learning; it all depends on their learning style. Some students learn better with one on one and some do better with group work. You just have to try different approaches until you see which one works best.
