A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experiences include college faculty member and home school teacher for my four children. They graduated from the Independent Study High School University of Nebraska, participated in Running Start and are all college graduates. I was also a 4-H leader for over twenty years and instructed many youth. As a community organizer, I developed public education and outreach programs. This involved teaching and mentoring people of all ages, pre-school through senior citizens. Currently, I am a school nurse for a middle school where I work to assess barriers to student learning.

I like teaching mathematics and have always strived to meet the learning needs and styles of each student I teach. I am a patient person and have seen much success in the learning of mathematics of my students. Students must be given examples of work and then let discover methods for solving problems. As a tutor, I believe it is my job to facilitate the individual thinking processes and strengths of each student. I am patient, attentive to students' concerns, and comfortable with many different learning styles. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching all age groups. I especially like working with High School students.Initially, they can be quite a challenge to work with, but once they are engaged they are fully immersed in the topic! I like to be creative and interactive! I was a difficult High School student so I can relate to many that get bored with some topics. I really like to use transactional teaching methods. I introduce a subject and have discussions about the material rather than strictly lecturing.I like to learn what the student can teach me after assigned a reading. Have them go in the front of the room and explain a portion of the reading. It also helps them develop confidence in their public speaking.

As a double major in Economics and Sociology I gained extensive experience with both mathematics as well as writing and oral presentations. In my final semester I enrolled in two graduate level classes and despite the difficulty of my class schedule worked even harder to achieve a 4.0 GPA for that semester. The combination of Economics and Sociology has provided a unique opportunity for me to develop my ability to understand complicated mathematical theories and equations and explain them in both written and oral forms. Although, I have not formally tutored, I participated in numerous study groups and have informally tutored friends. In addition I was a CPR teacher for two years.
