My comments on tutoring Journalism : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.

Holding active NYS certifications in both English and Literacy has had a tremendous impact on the way I teach. I find myself much better able to engage struggling students. Quite often, particularly when it comes to reading, it is the lack of basic comprehension skills that prevent students from being able to fully engage with a text and to perform critical thinking tasks. My experience in diagnosing and instructing students at various stages and abilities of literacy acquisition has helped me garner a talent for overcoming this challenge, and propelling students into higher order thinking.
As an educator, I view myself not as a provider of knowledge, but rather as a facilitator. I aim to encourage the critical thinking that will serve students not only in the classroom, but throughout their lives. In my experience, I have become well-versed in student-centered curriculum develo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching Philosophy One’s teaching philosophy is continually evolving over time. Evolution occurs because teaching is an ongoing process. This process has brought me to develop my own personal teaching philosophy. The philosophy I have created is one that is student centered. My classrooms have become student centered. I have decided to acquaint myself with the needs and expectations of my students. The classroom culture I desire is one where my students may know they are safe and secure to learn. They need to know they are allowed to fail because one truly learns from one’s failures. Failure should not have negative connotations but to know failing only points out what we need to learn and also know what are successes are as well. In order for this to be accomplished in the classroom, I have developed, for the time being, a teaching strategy. The strategy is to put forth knowledge whi ... read more

As a "late in life" graduate of Fordham University, I received permanent Teaching Certification and continued to teach in a public school district for 5 years. I was then offered an amazing opportunity to bring a non-profit pre-school and daycare back to fruition which I accomplished in under a year. Having left the pre-school after an ownership change, I have found myself desiring to go back to my real passion - teaching. I also have over 20 years of Business and marketing experience working as a Communications and marketing Director in Mid-town Manhattan.
I am an energetic, enthusiastic teacher who loves to teach children and adults of all ages. I enjoy challenging my students with fun projects and activities that get creative juices flowing and make learning fun!

I had a wonderful experience attending MSMC.I learned a wide variety of skills and techniques throughout the Psychology teachings as well as about the intriguing study of Psychology itself. There were many opportunities to examine and research philosophies and perform actual research as a team. I had the experience of learning a long side other students, however, I did tutor other fellow classmates at various times throughout my educational career in many venues.
I truly enjoy presenting people with ideas and having them gain the knowledge and capacity to gain the intended results. I have taught and mentored people within my work setting as well. My preference has always been to allow someone to think of ideas after you give them the tools they need; it becomes both productive and rewarding at the same time.

A Little Bit About Me...

In addition to teaching and providing learning opportunities for all ages, from preschool through adults (including those with special needs), in a variety of settings, I am the author of 30 nonfiction books, including those on how to study and take tests, how to participate in class, and how to achieve life-goals step by step. This ability carries over into my new career as a counselor, where I practice skills that enhance my success in helping others to achieve their goals, including academic success.
In my experience, the approach that works best with all ages is to form a cooperative bond to make the effort more a “we” project than a “you-must-do-this” on ... read more
