I work with each student in the way that is best for their particular learning styles. I prefer a laid-back approach to learning, allowing students to understand at their own pace and make connection on their own. This does not mean, however, that I do not have high expectations for my students.
I hold two bachelor degrees, a BA in French Language and Literature and a BS in Microbiology. I also have a certificate in African Studies and a minor in Chemistry. Therefore, I have a very well-rounded background in both the sciences and the liberal arts. I am also certified to teach English as a foreign language. A Little Bit About Me...

Making the learning session interactive makes a world of difference in teaching a language, and I find that incorporating play-acting into a learning session excites and motivates the student. Using the list of vocabulary words and rules of grammer the student is currently in the process of learning, I like to create a scenario with the student, stand up and walk away from the table, and pretend that we are actually at the dentist, the grocery store, etc. I also like to use topics that relate to the student's age and environment, thereby make the language 'real' to them.
I tutored fellow students regularly in Spanish, French, and German all 4 years of college, as I studied in Europe and Mexico, and was placed in advanced college levels my first semester in college. I prefer to teach by utilizing real-life situations that are pertinent to the subject matter. In my opinion, when you are able to bring the subject matter to life by making it relevant to the students you are teaching, there is a greater chance that the student will not only understand the information, but remember it long after they leave the classroom.
