Turning your weakness into your strength

I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.
I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate with an engineering related BS degree from North Carolina State University, my background intense in the maths and sciences. After entering the workforce for a few years, I took a few classes in education to acquire my teaching license in comprehensive science at the secondary level. I have taught primarily chemistry and physical science for 3.5 years, but have also taught biology and earth science. With chemistry being so math driven, I am confident and competent at math subjects such as algebra and algebra II to name a few.
I consider myself a facilitator of information more than a teacher. Students must be accountable for their own learning. I believe that are students are learners. I believe that a tutor must figure out what student have trouble understanding in any subject. I first start by showing all the students all the step involve in solving any math or science problem. After learning where the student is having trouble, I instruct them on methods for studying the materials. I allows eneanged the student in guided practice when solving a problem. Then i have the student work the problem from start to finish. I check to make sure they solved the equation correctly. I point their mistake as well informed them of what they got right. I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Teching where I learned the importance of the constructivist approach to learning.
