Special Tutor/Teacher

I try to teach by the style that seems to be the best for that student to learn. I am very patient and realize that each student takes a varied amount of time to grasp material. Hands on materials and fun activities are great ways to keep the student engaged.

My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I am certified teacher at the Master's level with certifications for early childhood, elementary, special education, ESL and reading specialist. I am trained in Mindfulness for children.

I use a multi-sensory approach when teaching to meet the student's needs. I also incorporate lots of games and personal experience to make it fun and engaging.
I graduated from Arcadia University with a Bachelor's degree in education from Arcadia University in 2014. I then went on to earn my Master's degree in education a year later from Arcadia University. Since that time, I was a classroom teacher for special needs students in an elementary setting and the lead EC teacher at my school and served on our student support team and school improvement team before becoming a district educational diagnostician. I have been tutoring since high school and have worked with students from preschool to college. I have been trained in the Wilson and Orton Gillingham reading approaches as well as mindfulness for children and teens.

Turning your weakness into your strength

I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"
I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

A Little Bit About Me...

It is important to teach children with appropriate strategies and techniques to maximize their success. I use visual aids to make the lesson interesting. I teach with Orton Gillingham approach, multi-sensory and kinesthetic style.
I have B.Sc. in Fine Arts with a minor in Special Education from Texas Women's University; a B.F.A in Graphic Design from the University of Kansas; and M.F.A in Painting and Textiles from Texas Women's University. Retired teacher with 27 years of experience!

I have 27 years of experience teaching and case managing public school special education students in grades 9-12. I have also team-taught a wide variety of "regular ed" classes, such as English, Math, Science, Social Studies, even Home Ec.!
