I thoroughly enjoy teaching students at various ages and stages of development. I consider myself to be very creative, and I try to give the students as much hands-on experience as possible. I am constantly seeking feedback from the student in terms of how well I am presenting the subject matter, so my methods of teaching will vary. I am always open to new ideas. Failure is not a word in my teaching vocabulary. I will always find a way to reach and teach my student in such a way that learning and application are maximized. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1973, I decided that I would enter the field of public education. After 6 years of successful and rewarding experiences in secondary education, I decided to return to college and obtain a Masters Degree in Education. Upon receiving my Masters in 1984, I taught at the post secondary level in both Virginia and North Carolina.

My experience with teaching and tutoring students is two-fold. I have received my BA in English from Liberty University and am in the process of earning a MA from the same institution. As an English student, I have a good working knowledge of grammar and composition, as well as excellent reading and comprehension skills, and I have tutored students in biology and math. I am working as a GSA (Graduate Student Assistant)as I pursue my Masters, and this position has allowed me to cover classes and work with students on a one-on-one basis. In addition to the time I have spent with these student, I have four years of experience teaching dance classes, and I work well with several age groups. I have been blessed with professors at the university level who understand the importance of one-on-one instruction. Through the "creativity" of thoughtful instructors I have seen myself grow and develop in ways that I hadn't thought possible. Every student learns differently, and once the instructor gets to know the student well enough and is able to tailor their lessons to the needs of the student, true learning happens. Teaching isn't just about preparing a student for a test; teaching is about creating and inspiring the desire to learn within the student so that they will be learn, not just because they are forced to, but because they are thirsty for knowledge.
