I have 10 years of full-time counseling experience and 25 years of part-time teaching experience. As a counselor, I work in a completely individualized way with each student- sometimes emphasizing tricks, techniques, timing and speed reading, sometimes emphasizing content.
28 years of tutoring for SAT. 15 years for ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, etc. I have devised unique guessing strategies for multiple choice tests that by themselves have significantly raised students' scores. My passion is teaching mathematics. After a single year of retirement I missed teaching so much that I now either teach or tutor at three locations. In the classroom I have a casual, informal style that is more like a conversation with my students than a formal lecture. After presenting a problem for students to analyze and solve, my most common tactic is to ask a series of scaffolded (rather than Socratic) questions-designed to lead students to their own method to resolve the situation. I believe that all students can learn mathematics, and that determining how each student best does it is my prime objective.
